The same old song and dance…

Canonical Consultation

[with copy of the memorandum]

For those of us that hoped that the leadership changes in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis would extend beyond the resignations of the two bishops and the appointment of an Apostolic Administrator, the first dash of cold water has now been tossed in our direction.

According to a memo sent to all priests today, Archbishop Hedba has asked several staff members, including the most recent Vicar General, to ‘continue to play the same leadership role in the Archdiocese’.

I have been trying all morning to think of a positive aspect of this decision, but my efforts have failed. In fact, I find it almost as concerning as the rumors that I have been hearing alleging that Archbishop Nienstedt, upon his departure last week, sent personal letters to all the Archdiocesan seminarians signed ‘Archbishop Emeritus’.

This is a good reminder that not only good times lead to delusions, but that bad times can lead to them as well.
