Rabbi Ezra Scheinberg, a renowned rosh yeshiva from Safed accused of sexual abusing women in his community, was indicted on Monday on 12 charges of sexual offenses including rape, sodomy, and indecent assault.

In addition, the rabbi was charged with interfering with a criminal investigation against him, coercing testimony sexual harassment and fraud.

The allegations of a separate complainant will not be considered since the statute of limitations has expired for those incidents.

Scheinberg, 48, is married and has eight children. He is the founder of the Orot HaAri yeshiva in Safed, which he established in 1999, and was a respected and prominent figure in the national-religious community, lauded as a particularly spiritual rabbi with preternatural abilities to see into the future and give advice on that basis.

According to the charges issued by the northern branch of the State Attorney’s Office, the alleged offenses were made against 12 separate women over a period of 10 years.
