CARDINAL George Pell, under fire over fresh allegations of sex abuse against him, has pleaded for a “fair go”.

Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton confirmed on Thursday that a Victoria Police investigation into sex abuse allegations against the cardinal was continuing while the Office of Public Prosecutions analysed a brief of evidence.

In February, the Herald Sun revealed that the world’s third-most powerful Catholic was being investigated by Taskforce Sano, which probes cases arising from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

On Wednesday night, two men whose claims are being investigated came forward with their allegations that during the summer of 1978-79, when they were boys, the then Father Pell groped them at Ballarat’s Eureka Pool.
