A Breaux Bridge priest arrested Wednesday for alleged possession of child pornography on his personal computer was held in high regard in the parish, according to Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel, of the Diocese of Lafayette.

The Rev. F. David Broussard, pastor of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, was arrested by the Louisiana State Police for 500 counts of possession of more than 500 images of child pornography.

Broussard is also the chancellor of St. Bernard School in Breaux Bridge.

At this juncture in the investigation, Deshotel said, there have not been any reports of abuse of children directly by Broussard.

“No complaints have been made that any kind of physical abuse occurred,” Deshotel said.
