Cardinal George Pell has accused Victorian police of ‘conspiring’ against him after revelations he faces multiple child abuse allegations after two men came forward claiming they were groped by the Catholic cleric in the 1970s.

But Victoria Police deny some officers leaked information to the media about the ongoing investigation into Australia’s highest ranking Catholic.

Cardinal Pell called for a fresh review after ABC television on Wednesday night aired a story saying he was being investigated over multiple allegations related to inappropriate behaviour involving children.

The cardinal denies all of the allegations made by the complainants and says he’s being subjected to trial by media on the back of leaking ‘by elements of the Victoria Police to the ABC’.

The Victorian Police have denied they leaked the allegation to the media.
