The Diocese of Davenport has received a report of inappropriate sexual behavior in regard to a minor by Fr. John Stack dating from the 1990s. In compliance with the Diocese’s Memorandum of Understanding with local law enforcement, both Scott County and Clinton County (where the alleged behavior took place) were notified. The case was referred back to the Diocese for further investigation and possible canonical process.

In compliance with the Diocese’s Policies Relating to Sexual and Personal Behavior, Fr. Stack has been removed from ministry while the Diocese investigates this allegation further.

Fr. Stack was accused of abuse in the 1980s in 2013 and was removed from ministry, but a church trial reinstated him in 2016.

Fr. Stack has served in various parishes and institutions throughout his career, including Holy Family in Davenport, All Saints in Keokuk, St. Joseph in East Pleasant Plain, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini in Richland, Samaritan Health Systems in Clinton, The Alverno in Clinton, Church of the Visitation in Camanche, Sisters of St. Francis in Clinton, St James in Toronto, Sacred Heart in Oxford Junction and Lost Nation, St. Patrick Church-VillaNova in Charlotte, Ss. Mary and Joseph in Sugar Creek, Ss. Philip & James in Grand Mound, St. Joseph in Dewitt, St. Alphonsus in Mount Pleasant, Jesus Christ Prince of Peace in Clinton, Holy Family in Fort Madison and St. Joseph in Montrose.

The Diocese has apologized to all those who have been abused and continues to pray for them.

To report child sexual abuse contact the Iowa Department of Human Services Child Abuse Hotline at 8003622178. If the abuse involves clergy or church personnel also notify Alicia Owens, Victim Assistance Coordinator at 5633495002.
