A man who previously volunteered as a coach at a Christian private school in Addis is now facing domestic battery charges in addition to prior accusations of indecent behavior.
He was previously arrested in June for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Records show Dennis Clinton Kennamer Jr., 39, of Brusly, was charged with domestic abuse with strangulation.
He was arrested by the Brusly Police Department in June on the charges of one count of computer aided solicitation of a minor, two counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, one count of molestation of a juvenile or a person with a physical or mental disability, and two counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
Kennamer is accused of committing sexual acts with a 16-year-old girl between January and February 2024.
Arrest records state he used email to communicate with the teen.
The assistant chief of Brusly Police Department told WAFB there were multiple agencies involved, including the Addis Police Department, which is where the school and church are located. He says the investigation into Kennamer is ongoing, and he believes more charges could be brought against him.
He added that the Church of Addis is also being investigated.
Christian Academy of Louisiana released a statement on Friday, June 7, detailing its cooperation with law enforcement after the arrest of one of their former volunteer coaches.
According to the statement, the volunteer coach was banned from campus and contact with students after the allegations were brought to school administration’s attention and the investigation began immediately.
“Children should never be subjected to sexual assault and we are deeply troubled that someone would attempt such horrific things with our students,” wrote school officials.
School officials also released the following details about their standard protocols for any incident that is potentially a violation of law:
- If the background produces no issues, an employee may engage their defined duties (this includes volunteer and salaried employees).
- If any allegations is produced of misconduct, an investigation results.
- If the allegation involves possible illegal activity, appropriate law enforcement is notified.
- CAL cooperates fully with any investigation.
- During the investigation, the employee is placed on administrative leave or, in the case of a volunteer, removed immediately from school-related interactions until the matter is resolved.
- Parents/Guardians are made aware of any allegations.
- Final outcomes are the result of police investigation and their response to the allegations.
The employee/ volunteer must pass a background check prior to student interaction, confirmed school officials.
