Previously a co-lead pastor at Res Life Church in Holland, Joshua VanderKlok is now facing the possibility of nearly two decades in prison if convicted.
A former Holland pastor is facing six felony charges after investigators accused him of secretly recording a family member with a hidden camera.
Joshua Peter VanderKlok, who previously served as co-pastor at Res Life Church Holland, is charged with three counts of surveilling an unclothed person and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
According to court records, the investigation began on May 2 after a family member discovered a small black camera hidden beneath a bed and contacted the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators later obtained a search warrant and conducted a forensic examination of the camera’s SD card.
Court documents allege the camera was positioned toward the doorway of a private bathroom and contained images of the victim unclothed on multiple occasions, including on April 21 and April 23.
During a June 10 probable cause hearing, a detective testified that VanderKlok admitted placing the camera to surveil the family member because it gave him a “connection” to the victim.
An Ottawa County judge found probable cause to authorize the charges.
If convicted on all six charges, VanderKlok could face up to 18 years in prison.
In a brief statement to 13 ON YOUR SIDE, the victim said, “Thanks for reaching out. I prefer not to comment with an open investigation. My focus remains on the safety and well-being of those affected and allowing the legal process to proceed appropriately.”
VanderKlok is no longer serving as a co-lead pastor at Res Life Holland.
The church said in a statement on their website, “The leadership structure of Resurrection Life Church consists of a board of Elders and a pastor. Together they are responsible for the direction of the church… At present the board is prayfully seeking a new pastor. During the time of transition the board is currently responsible for both.”
VanderKlok is expected back in court later this week.
