In a groundbreaking statement hidden in the bowels of the diocesan website Dioknox.org, Bishop of Knoxville, Mark Beckman, has release all victims of clergy sexual abuse from confidentiality agreements which have been imposed on them by the Church. Beckman says that the Church should not stand in the way of a victim’s healing.

Years of advocacy based on these very principles have fallen on deaf ears across the state of Tennessee. Tyler Whetstone, investigave reporter for the Knoxville News Sentinel, has produced a scathing report on the Diocese of Knoxville that pushed Beckman to make the statement on the release of Non-Disclosure Agreements, Non-Disparagement Agreements, and all other silencing language that has enslaved victims for decades.

The Diocese of Nashville and the Diocese of Memphis are guilty, as is Knoxville, of violating the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Read the articles by Whetstone for all the details.
