The now-retired Rev. Thomas Conde, previously of Christ the King and St. Christina, is the subject of a pending lawsuit and has denied the allegations, the archdiocese said in a letter to parishioners.
A retired Catholic priest who previously led parishes in Beverly and Mount Greenwood is being accused of sexual abuse of a minor in a pending lawsuit, according to the Archdiocese of Chicago.
The Rev. Thomas Conde was previously pastor of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 9235 S. Hamilton Ave. in Beverly, and St. Christina Roman Catholic Church, 3342 W. 111th St. in Mount Greenwood.
In a letter sent Monday to parishioners at Christ the King and St. Christina, Cardinal Blase Cupich said the archdiocese had recently been informed that a lawsuit would be filed alleging the sexual abuse of a minor by Conde.
Cupich said the allegations were from Conde’s time at St. James in Sauk Village more than 20 years ago. Conde, who is retired, has strongly denied that he has ever sexually abused anyone, Cupich said in the letter.
Conde served as associate pastor at St. Joseph in Libertyville from 1987-1992, pastor at St. James in Sauk Village from 1993-2003, vocation director and comptroller at St. Joseph College Seminary from 2003-2007, and pastor at Christ the King from 2007-2014 and St. Christina from 2014-2024, according to previous press releases from the archdiocese.
Conde was most recently associate pastor at St. John of the Cross Parish in Western Springs from 2024 until retiring in January 2026.
Cupich said a request from the archdiocese to learn the nature of the claim through an interview of the person making the accusation had been denied. An exact date or year of the accusation was not included in the letter.
Out of an abundance of caution, Cupich said he has asked Conde to step aside from all parish ministry and live away from any parish until the allegations are investigated.
“The Archdiocese of Chicago takes all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously,” Cupich said in a statement. “We appreciate the courage it takes to step forward and encourage anyone who believes they have experienced abuse or inappropriate behavior by a member of the clergy, religious or lay employee of the archdiocese to report it to the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth.”
