A new charge has been filed against the wife of a former Pawleys Island pastor as part of an ongoing investigation centered on a convicted sex offender who was allowed to volunteer at a church-based school.
Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver announced Friday that Ginny Williams has been charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk or causing child harm in connection with the sheriff’s office investigation into Pawleys Island Community Church.
According to investigators, the charge stems from findings that had not been verified last week but have since been confirmed through multiple witness statements.
“In order for this charge to be levied, a person has to be in a supervisory role, be responsible for a child’s welfare, and engage in acts or omissions that present a substantial risk that a sexual offense will be committed against a child,” the sheriff’s office said.
The agency added: “Ginny Williams has been found to not only hold a supervisory role at Pawleys Island Community Church, but also to hold such a role over the operations of Pawleys Island Christian Academy.”
Williams was arrested Friday morning and booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center. A bond hearing was scheduled for 3 p.m.

Williams, a former church administrator, was previously charged with criminal conspiracy and obstruction of justice. She was granted a $50,000 bond on those charges earlier this week.
