Billy Anders, a Buna pastor, was arrested for assault causing bodily injury after a woman alleged he struck her, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

A 58-year-old Buna man was arrested Wednesday after a woman reported that he assaulted her at their residence, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Hoke responded at about 8:48 p.m. Tuesday to the Evadale Sub Courthouse to meet with a woman who had reported the assault to Sheriff Chuck Havard.

The woman told Hoke that her husband, Billy Anders, had struck her in the back of the head more than once at their residence in Buna, according to the Sheriff’s Office. She reported that the assault caused damage to her teeth and resulted in a nosebleed.

On Wednesday, Deputy Bradley Morgan arrested Anders at his residence on a warrant charging him with assault causing bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office said Anders is a pastor in Hardin County and emphasized that the position does not place anyone above the law.

“Regardless of who you are, what you do for a living or what position you hold in our community, violence against any of our citizens will not be tolerated in Jasper County,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
