An Edinburg pastor who was initially arrested in July following a victim’s outcry has now been charged with child grooming.

Jorge Ivan Gonzalez Martinez of Mission was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of child grooming and given a $100,000 bond, according to a press release from the city of Edinburg.

The two counts stem from two separate juvenile victims, according to the release.

The investigation into Gonzalez began on July 19 after one of the victims made outcry to her dad, according to a probable cause affidavit.

She told police that she had been touched inappropriately multiple times between March and April 2025 at their church, Poder Y Gloria Church, which is located at 4801 S. Business Highway 281 in Edinburg.

Five days following the outcry, an Edinburg detective attended a Children’s Advocacy Center interview with the victim who stated that the abuse started when Gonzalez would give her hugs that “became tighter” over time and included “body contact,” according to a probable cause affidavit.

The hugs then evolved into him kissing her on the forehead, cheeks and lips. The victim added that these incidents happened when she was in the camera room of the church.

These instances involved Gonzalez touching the victim’s chest after lifting her bra and exposing her when he pulled her leggings and underwear down, the affidavit said.

In another incident, Gonzalez allegedly placed her hand on his crotch over his clothing.

Gonzalez was initially arrested on July 28 on three counts of indecency with child sexual contact and one count of indecency with a child exposes and bailed out of the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on $70,000 in bonds.

On Tuesday, Gonzalez was arraigned on two counts of child grooming and was in custody as of Wednesday morning, records show.
