“Women religious” have led major education, health and charitable institutions.
They’re a social media hit. Images of nuns playing sport, singing, and generally having a great time proliferate on Instagram.
But they’ve also been victims of their own church.
Tracy McEwan and Kathleen McPhillips of the University of Newcastle are running a new project to document the experiences of religious sisters affected by sexual and gendered violence.
GUEST:
- Dr Tracy McEwan is a sociologist of religion and gender in the School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences at the University of Newcastle
This program is recorded on the lands of the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation
