The Archdiocese of New Orleans has released an updated list of priests and other clergy who have been removed from ministry due to credible claims of child sexual abuse.

A letter from Archbishop James Checchio released Friday states that the report has been released on the Archdiocese’s website in compliance with the bankruptcy settlement involving abuse survivors.

With the release of the updated report, Checchio states that “no clergyman with a credible claim of abuse remains in ministry in the Archdiocese of New Orleans.”

According to the letter, the report contains the publication of names of archdiocesan clergy accused of child sexual abuse, stating the update “contains the names of clergy, all of whom are deceased, who were accused of sexual abuse, and after the allegations have been reviewed, it has been determined that there is sufficient information to make their accusation public.”

The report also contains “a number of clergy who were never formally assigned here, who are included on a list of accused in their home diocese or religious order, and were accused in the bankruptcy of abusing a survivor in the archdiocese.”

Checchio’s letter states that a list of names of those whose records will be included in an archive of eligible files. The archive will include those on the archdiocese’s published list and those identified as perpetrators in three or more child sexual abuse proofs of claim in the bankruptcy.

In a video message posted to the archdiocese website and YouTube page, Checchio says, “The road forward has to be connected with the telling of the truth…the assistance that we give to our survivors…and we have to be willing to face the truth, whatever it was.”
