Accused in 2007 of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in 1952 after using alcohol to incapacitate her. Lawsuit filed in 3/2008. The abuse included intercourse and continued through 1954. Baskett was then transferred to a parish later located in the Jefferson City, MO diocese. He became an Air Force chaplain in 1955, first as a priest of the Kansas City MO diocese, later as a Springfield-Cape Girardeau priest. Per the Catholic Directories, he had a Kitty Hawk, NC address in the Raleigh diocese 1978-1979. He died 6/23/1995 in Las Vegas. The civil suit settled in an 8/2008 $10M settlement involving 12 priests. Included on the Springfield-Cape Giradeau diocese’s list updated 4/1/2019. It notes that Baskett left the priesthood in 1975.
