Fr. Roy K. Ronald

Died in 2013. First publicly accused when included on the Diocese’s list of accused 3/20/2018. The list includes deceased priests only if they have more than one allegation. The Official Catholic Directory shows that Ronald was ‘absent on leave’ 1995-1998, then ‘retired’ from 1998 on. He was accused in a lawsuit filed in 8/2019 under the NY Child Victims Act of “unpermitted sexual conduct” 1982-1986 of a child, ages 11-14. The plaintiff was involved with youth programs at St. Mary’s in Belmont. In 1995 Ronald was placed on sick leave another priest told chancery officials that Roy abused five siblings around 1984. Despite “sick leave” and an order from the bishop not to celebrate mass publicly, Roy was allowed to celebrate at least two masses, one for a large group of teenagers and adults, alongside the bishop. He was allowed to function as an active priest until his death. By 12/2020, Ronald was accused in four lawsuits.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
