Ordained for the Archdiocese of Boston in 1945. Auxiliary Bishop of Boston 1972-1976. Appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Springfield MA in 1976. Bishop of Springfield 1977-1991. Died in 2014. Accused in a 7/2026 lawsuit of sexually assaulting a 4- to 5-year old boy in 1973 or 1974, at Brightside, which was a residential home for children in West Springfield. The boy was a resident. Per the plaintiff, he was put in a closet as punishment when, on one occasion, Maguire came in and sodomized him; another time Maguire allegedly forced the boy to perform oral sex in a pool changing room. The suit also names Bishop Christopher Weldon.
