Ordained at age 40 for the Diocese of Wichita. Assigned as as a parish pastor, teacher and chaplain at Bishop Carroll High School, diocesan director of the office of Respect Life and Social Justice, moderator of the office of Hispanic ministry, and chancellor. Elevated to Bishop of Dodge City in 2/11. The Dodge City diocese announced on 2/8/21 that Brungardt had been notified by the KS Bureau of Investigation that he was the subject of an allegation sexual abuse of a minor. Brungardt denied the allegation, and stepped aside during the investigation. In 3/22 the diocese announced that the allegation “is not supported by the evidence” and that Brungardt would be returned to his role as Dodge City bishop.
