Fr. William Bruning

Ordained: 1993
Status: Accused

Diocese: Archdiocese of Kansas City KS

Suspended in 6/15 after an allegation from a woman in her early thirties that Bruning sexually abused her as a girl when she attended Most Pure Heart of Mary School in Topeka. The Review Board determined that it could not substantiate the claims and he was returned to ministry. His accuser again contacted the archdiocese in 10/18 with new information and the case was reopened. The Review Board found the allegations not credible. Allegation not made public until 2/19, when Bruning announced it at mass. He denied the allegation. Bruning had resigned from an Olathe parish in 6/13 for an allegation that did not involve minors of “behaviors in violation of his promise of celibate chastity.”

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
