Fr. William T. Byrne
Accused in a lawsuit filed in 4/1999, along with Msgr. Robert Trupia, of sexually abusing a boy and giving him drugs and alcohol 1976-1979. At least one other suit was filed against Byrne. In 2/2002 the Diocese announced it had settled 11 civil suits involving 10 plaintiffs for $14M, some claiming abuse by Byrne. Two sisters filed suit in 8/2002 alleging that Byrne abused their brothers during the 1960s and that the brothers then abused the two sisters. At least one of the brothers had participated in the 2/2002 settlement. Byrne died in 1991. Included on the Diocese’s list of credibly accused.
