Fr. Joseph P. Byrns

Placed on leave in 7/02. One of 12 priests named as abusers in a civil suit filed in Brooklyn in 10/02. In the suit, two brothers (one of them a priest) claimed Byrns abused them for years as children in the late-1960s and early-1970s. Charged in 8/04 with abuse of a third youth beginning in 2000. Pled guilty in 1/06. Sentenced to three years probation in 3/06. Laicized 5/18/13. On diocese’s list in 2/19.
