Fr. Robert A. Carpentier
Removed in 1992 after a man filed a civil suit alleging abuse at age 13 in 1973-1974. Questions in case about statute of limitations referred to R.I. Supreme Court, which ruled against plaintiffs. (See 1996 R.I. Lexis187, 7/11/96.) Claims against this priest were settled 9/02 as part of a $13.5M mass settlement involving 36 victims of priest abuse in the Providence diocese. Died 5/9/12.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
