Fr. Geoffrey Chase
Started work at Portsmouth Abbey School in 1960. In 11/2016 the school reached out to alumni regarding past sex abuse, hiring a law firm to investigate. It was discovered that Chase was a dorm housemaster in the mid-1960s. He taught math and later computer science until 2002 when he was “sent away” to treatment and then long-term care, due to the past sexual abuse of a student. He admitted to abusing three others in the early 1970s-early 1980s. In 8/2017 he was in his late 80s and ill. He died 8/1/2023. Included in the 3/4/2026 RI Attorney General’s Report.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
