Deacon Pete Santistevan
Teacher; school principal; superintendent of schools in Bernanlillo NM. Retired in 1981. Ordained for the permanent diaconate in 1987. Assigned to Our Lady of Sorrows in Bernalillo Parish until 1996. Accused in a proof of claim form filed in 5/2019 of sexually abusing a girl, ages 3-5, from 1983 to 1985, and again when she was ages 7-9, 1987 through 1989, at Our Lady of Sorrows. Santistevan often babysat the girl. The claimant said that Santistevan did not have access to her between 1985 and 1987 because she was then living with her mother in another town. The abuse allegedly resumed after she moved back to Bernalillo to live with her father. She suspects that her sister was also abused. Further, she said that in 2011 a man told her that Sanstistevan abused him when he was young; the man died by suicide in 2013. Santistevan died in 2016.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
