Fr. Louis M. Diogo
Diogo retired and moved out of state in 1993 after his cousin told the Diocese that he had sexually abused her and her sister as children in the 1950s and 1960s, beginning when she was age 5 and through her teens. The Diocese found the woman to be credible. Diogo was not charged criminally. In 2005 the the woman reported that Diogo had returned to Rhode Island and was saying mass; the Diocese immediately told him that he could not say mass or function as a priest. He died 4/4/2015. Included 7/1/2019 on the Diocese’s list of credibly accused.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
