Ordained: 1980
Status: Sued

Diocese: Diocese of Manchester NH

Accused in a 2002 civil lawsuit of sexually abusing three brothers, ages 9, 11, and 12, in 1983. The  assaults were reported in 1983 and the case went to the Attorney General’s office. In an agreement that Fleming would instead undergo continued treatment, the case was not prosecuted. Fleming admitted to the abuse. He was sent to the House of Affirmation in MO for two years, then was granted faculties to minister in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, was assigned to a parish. In 1986 the parish pastor complained to the bishop about what the bishop said were “small problems” not like the “big problems” that “brought him here.” His faculties were revoked and Fleming left the priesthood. The Diocese did not include him on list of accused priests released in 2/2002, explaining that it was because they thought he had died in 1997. He was, however, alive. Fleming is said to have gone on to become a Unitarian minister in Charlestown NH. Included on the Diocese’s list released in 7/2019. Laicized. Added to the St. Louis archdiocese’s list in 8/2019.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
