Fr. Joseph Clarence W. Forand
A man told the diocese in 1993 that Forand molested him for several years, beginning when he was age 8 or 9. Misconduct Committee did nothing because Forand had already retired. Forand continued to assist as retired priest until 2002 norms were issued. His privileges were removed at age 85. One claim settled as part of 2004 $7.5M settlement reached between 45 claimants and the Diocese of Springfield, involving 18 priests. Placed under prayer and penance until his death in 5/05. In 2018 a 67-year-old man told the Diocesan Review Board that he was abused as a boy by Forand, Rev. Edward Authier and Bishop Weldon. The allegations were deemed credible. Included on the diocese’s list of credibly accused.
