Fr. Jose R. Rodriguez
Parish priest. Actor and founder of a theater troupe prior to priesthood. Per a 5/2019 proof of claim in the Santa Fe archdiocese’s bankruptcy, Rodriguez sexually abused an altar boy, ages 13-15, at St. Thomas Parish in Abiqui 1990-1991. The claimant alleged that another St. Thomas priest, Fr. Roger Martinez, abused him when he was ages 9-13. Rodriguez, who was Martinez’s replacement, would allegedly come up from behind him after the boy’s choir practice, say he was giving the boy a singing lesson, then would reach into his pants and grab and squeeze the boy’s genitals. Further, he would push his body into the boy’s and grind forcefully on his back. The claimant said that Rodriguez was almost always drunk, and was violent and mean. He died 2/22/1996 in his native Puerto Rico.
