Fr. Julian B. Goodman, Jr.

Ordained: 1966
Status: Accused

Diocese: Diocese of Richmond VA

Goodman admitted when confronted by the diocese in 1994 to sexually abusing a teenage boy at St. John Vianney Prep Seminary and at a parish in 1976-79. He was sent to St. John Vianney Hospital in PA for treatment. His victim came forward again in 2002 and demanded the story be made public. Goodman was forced to retire without privileges 8/02. Other alleged perpetrators at the school were Steven Rule and John Leonard. In 3/19 a man stated publicly that he told the diocese in 2016 that Goodman abused him 1966-67 as a teenage altar boy at Holy Cross parish in Lynchburg. The Review Board reportedly deemed the allegation credible and sent the case to the Vatican, which declined to laicize Goodman. Police began an investigation, then dropped it due to the priest’s “mental condition.” On diocese’s list 2/13/19. Died in 2021.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
