Fr. James Craig Hagan
Accused of sexually abusing at least 19, boys, 11 substantiated as of 5/2023. The abuse included rape and victims were as young as age 11. May have abused as a seminarian in 1972. First allegations were reported in 1988 when parents reported Hagan’s concerning behavior to the Archdiocese and law enforcement. Kept in ministry. Made pastor in 1988 of St. Denis, where he remained until he was placed on leave in 1996 due to new allegations. Resigned from the priesthood in 4/1997. Two claims settled in 10/2003. One claim was included in a 10/2005 settlement with the Archdiocese. Suit in 4/2006 claimed abuse 1994-1996 at St. Denis parish. At least one claim was included in a $12.7M settlement in 8/2008 involving 11 priests and 16 plaintiffs. Laicized in 4/2010. Personnel file released 01/21/2014.
