Br. James Vincent Hanney
Multiple allegations of abuse of male and female teenagers. Per his Order, Hanney was accused by at least two persons in claims settled in bankruptcy proceedings. Shown as a former brother as of 6/11/2014. The Christian Brothers state that the merits of most of the claims settled in the bankruptcy were not tested. The 1982 yearbook for All Hallows High School in the Bronx shows Hanney was there as a science teacher. In 2012 a woman alleged abuse and rape 1977-1980 by Hanney when she was a Bishop Gibbons High School student in Schenectady NY and he was her teacher and counselor. Reportedly, in 1971 Gibbons High students showed their principal a photo of two young men and Hanney sitting nude on a picnic table, and the principal did nothing. Assigned to Briscoe Memorial School in Kent WA 1963-1964. In 2019, he was possibly teaching in the Philippines. Named in a new lawsuit in 2/2019. As of 8/2019 Hanney was named in 11 complaints. Added 12/4/2019 to the Albany diocese’s list of credibly accused. By 7/2020 there were 12 pending lawsuits.
