Fr. Timothy James Kelley

Ordained for the Buffalo diocese. On leave from the priesthood 1986-2002 before receiving permission to return to active ministry. Per the NY AG in its 11/23/2020 complaint against the Buffalo diocese, Kelley [referred to as “Fr. L.”] left ministry in FL for 16 years, working for a state child services agency. Named in a civil suit filed in 9/2003 in FL. Accused of the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old boy in 1983 during a trip from Buffalo to FL. Some dispute as to whether Kelley was part of the Buffalo diocese at time of abuse or St. Petersburg FL diocese. In 11/2003 a second man alleged abuse before Kelley left Buffalo. Kelley resigned. Included on the Diocese of Buffalo’s 3/20/2018 list as removed, retired, or having left ministry after allegations of the sexual abuse of a minor.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
