Ordained for the Diocese of Springfield MA. Levay’s first assignment was at All Sts. in Ware MA until he left to become a Navy chaplain in 1955. Per news in 1955, Levay “took special interest in the young people of the town and organized …a youth society which held entertainment and recreational activities.” Levay was a Navy chaplain for three years in the Philippines and Great Lakes Naval Hospital. He returned to MA, assigned to St. Mary’s in East Springfield. In 1960 he became an Air Force chaplain, working in Little Rock AR, Germany, Italy, and Lincoln NE. He was assigned during his priesthood to parishes in Ware, Greenfield, Springfield, Orange, Hinsdale, and Becket MA. He retired in 2003 and died 12/30/2007. Named publicly as credibly accused by the Diocese on its list in 2/17/2026, for sexual abuse occurring between 1971 and 1974 while assigned to St. Patrick’s in Hinsdale and St. Mathew’s in Becket.
