Fr. Timothy P. McCarthy

McCarthy’s name was included on the Archdiocese’s list of credibly accused 12/5/2013. On Special Assignment 1982-1984. Resigned and permanently removed from ministry in 1991. He had been removed by the Archdiocese for the sexual abuse of two boys early in his career and later had an abusive relationship with a college student. The Archdiocese then helped him in his career as a Hennepin County correctional officer; he lost the job in 1999 after he was accused of criminal sexual conduct with a 17-year-old. Per the 12/2013 list, McCarthy was believed to be living in Oakdale or St. Paul MN. Personnel files released in 6/2014 shows several incidents of abuse and treatment. McCarthy died in 2019.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
