Fr. Benjamin J. McMahon, Jr.
Arrested in 1985 for a sex act with a man. The archdiocese and court kept the arrest quiet. Took leave from the priesthood in 1986. In 1991 a family complained to the church that McMahon had abused three of their sons in the late 1970s – early 1980s, while assigned to Immaculate Conception in Marlboro. He was a family friend who often went on vacations with them and slept in the same room as the boys. No criminal charges because of SOL. Voluntary laicization in 2010, announced 6/13/11. Per the Boston archdiocese’s list in 8/11, case concluded canonically.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
