Fr. Horacio Daniel Medina
From Honduras. Ordained for the Newark archdiocese. Quietly placed on leave in 2002. Arrested in 2004, charged with the sexual abuse of 14-year-old boy in 1999. Pleaded guilty in 2008. Sentenced to three years probation. Privileges withdrawn. Allegations became public in 9/2008 in a “confidential” memo from the Archdiocese to all bishops warning them that Medina had no privileges. Laicization announced 9/3/2013. Included 2/13/2019 on the Archdiocese’s list of credibly accused. Multiple victims noted. In 6/2025 the Archdiocese notified parishes that Medina had been falsely presenting himself as a priest, including saying mass in people’s homes. In 4/2026 several websites promoting “Father” Medina state that he also visits hospitals and prisons to provide “various services.”

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
