Fr. Steven W. Poitras
Removed from St. Michael’s in Hudson in 11/2006 after an allegation surfaced that he sexually abused a child in 1994. Police were notified; investigated. Reports show that in 1994 Poitras claimed to have been undergoing cancer treatment. Four months later, after Poitras revealed he staged the cancer, Cardinal Law placed him on sick leave. Placed on leave in 11/2006. On 6/27/2009, the Boston archdiocese website showed him active and working in the clergy personnel office. Still on administrative leave in 10/2015; canonical case in progress. Per the archdiocesan website in 1/2020, the allegation was found unsubstantiated. Poitras was laicized in 2018.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
