Br. George Puello

Order: SDB
Status: Sued

Diocese: Diocese of Albany NY

From Colombia. Professed vows as a Salesian brother in 1967. Three men filed suit in 9/02 alleging abuse by Puello when they were students at Salesian Jr. Seminary in Goshen, NY 1969-73. One man says he told the seminary director (who went on to become Auxiliary Bishop in Boston) but the director only dismissed the victim, saying he was “not priest material.” Suit also says others at the seminary knew what was going on and that there were other abusers at the school. Puello left the order at some point. Very active for decades in Westchester County, NY theater community, including with youth. Died 8/21/19. Included in 3/20 on the Salesians list of credibly accused. It notes that Puello left the order in 1971.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
