Fr. Gerard J. Ream

Ordained: 1954
Status: Accused

Diocese: Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown PA

Per the PA Attorney General’s 3/1/16 Grand Jury Report, in 1966 Ream “took special interest” in a female student at Bishop Carroll High School, where he taught religion. He counseled her and helped her get into college, including providing money. He visited her there and insisted she see him on visits home, during which time he engaged in sex with her. When she fell in love with a boy at school, he harassed her and she grew frightened. She reported Ream to the diocese in 2008. He died 4/18/08.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
