Fr. James P. Robichaud

Worked in the Archdiocese of Boston 1979-2000. Moved to ME where he was incardinated into the Portland diocese in 2003. In 2008 allegations arose that Robichaud had sexually abused a teenage girl around 1979 while he was assigned to St. Jean-Baptiste Parish in Lowell, MA. The allegations were known for five months by the Diocese before Robichaud was placed on leave 6/26/2008. He died by suicide the same night. Portland refused to pursue an investigation after his death. In 4/2012 Attorney Garabedian announced a recent settlement of at least one claim regarding Robichaud.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
