Fr. John R. Russell
In 2004 a woman claimed that she was the subject of inappropriate sexual advances and sexual assault by Russell when she was in high school between 1968 and the early 1970s. Russell left the Catholic priesthood in 1970 and later became a priest of the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande. The Springfield diocese deemed the accusation credible and informed the Episcopal church. Russell left the Episcopal priesthood in 2001. He was also accused of abuse in New Mexico. Russell died in Albuquerque 7/28/19. Included on the Springfield diocese’s list of credibly accused.
