Accused in two 1994 civil lawsuits of molesting minors. Had been assigned in the St. Anthony of Padua Province in Chicopee MA; requested transfer to Santa Fe for “health reasons.” Apparently incardinated into the Archdiocese of Santa Fe in 1956 or 1957. Alleged to have sexually abused a boy in 1967. Abuse was alleged of another boy in 1971 by Rutowski and a church custodian. Retired in 1991. Facilities were restricted to private celebrations of mass after allegations by one youth. Rutowski died in 2/2004. Accused in a suit filed 12/17/2015 of abusing various boys, one 1975-1979, beginning when the boy was age 9 and Rutowski was assigned to St. Jude Thaddeus in Albuquerque. Included on the Santa Fe archdiocese’s list 9/12/2017. Per a 5/2019 proof of claim in the Santa Fe archdiocese’s bankruptcy, Rutowski sexually abused an altar boy, age 10-11, during 1974-1975, in his rectory bedroom at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Albuquerque. The plaintiff also alleged abuse by Deacon Julian Sanchez, who brought him to Fr. Rutowski. The abuse allegedly included forced oral and anal sex.
