Fr. Albert E. Schetter
Diocese: Archdiocese of Cincinnati OH
Retired in 1990. Died 5/5/02. Lawsuit filed in 2003 by two men accusing Schetter of sexual abuse when they were boys in the early 1960s. They also claimed the archdiocese knew and did nothing. One plaintiff had gone to the archdiocese in 1992 with his allegations. Archdiocesan officials offered the man counseling, which he declined. They also reviewed Schetter’s personnel file and found that there had been complaints in the early 1960s of his “odd behavior” with children; officials’ response in the early 1960s was to send the priest on a spiritual retreat. In 1992 Schetter was told to stay away from children.
Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
