Fr. John P. Schmeer
Multiple allegations. Sued in 2004. Accused of the sexual abuse of three boys, in 1966-1967 and 1986. The first allegations were deemed not credible in 2003; an investigation in 2004 found the latest allegation to be credible. Schmeer’s ministry was permanently restricted. In 2/2005 through at least 12/2019 Schmeer was living a supervised life of prayer and penance. Three men filed two new lawsuits against Schmeer 9/18/2012. A suit filed in 12/2019 claimed that Rev. Francis Trauger sexually abused a boy, age 11 in 1981; the boy’s parents sent him to speak with Schmeer, who then also sexually abused him.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
