Sr. Helen Thieneman

Order: OP
Status: Sued

Diocese: Archdiocese of Louisville KY

A woman filed suit in 8/03 alleging that Thieneman sexually abused her several times in the 1974-75 school year. The nun allegedly would take her out of class for counseling and abuse her. The alleged victim told her parents in 1983 or 1984 and a psychological evaluation supported her claims. Her father went to the Order in 1984, but no action. Order said there were no other complaints. The woman herself went to Archbishop Kelly in 1992. He said that Thieneman was assigned to a hospital in a controlled environment. Suit withdrawn in 1/03. Thieneman ied 1/21/13.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
