Fr. Thomas A. Trepanier

Ordained: 1975
Status: Accused

Died: 7/14/2025
Diocese: Archdiocese of Milwaukee WI

In 1998 a man told the Archdiocese he was sexually abused at ages 15-18 in 1977-1979 by Trepanier, at St. Robert Parish in Shorewood. Trepanier resigned from his position in 5/2002 after old allegations were investigated by the Archdiocese. He wrote a letter telling his parishes of his background. As of 5/2002, he was one of six priests with credible allegations of past abuse who were still working in active ministry. He remained fully restricted from ministry as of 3/2012, per the archdiocese website. Archbishop Dolan tried to have him laicized. Trepanier died 7/14/2025.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
