Federal probation officers found themselves in unincorporated St. Louis County last month, where convicted sex offender and former priest William F. Vatterott lives. It started with Vatterott’s simple reported failure to report a work mobile phone.

That ended with the reported discovery of five unauthorized devices and then a more concerning discovery of what the feds reported finding on those devices.

Neighbor Rathwaan Algebory witnesses federal agents swarming Deerfield Lane.

“I saw a bunch of federal officers. They had these vest on that said federal agents and they were basically going through the car and the house and it was kind of a strange scene in an area like this,” Algebory said.

In Vatterott’s home and car, federal agents described finding “unauthorized devices” with “nude pictures and videos of what appeared to be minor males.”

“I think it’s terrible. I think it has no place in this neighborhood and in the world in general,” Algebory said.

Neighbor Suzette Allinger added, “I’m glad they caught him because we have a lot of children in this subdivision, and those jerks need to be put away, prosecuted and never be allowed to be around any child.”

Allinger did not know about Vatterott’s history. He was convicted in 2013 after pleading guilty to child porn possession. He’s on lifetime probation, with his arrest warrant in this current case listing five probation violations since then, including “contact with a minor without permission” and “missing sex offender treatment.”

FOX 2 knocked on Vatterott’s door seeking comment, but he did not answer.

In the meantime, Vatterott waived his detention hearing and will have his first court date Oct. 28.
