Fr. Louis E. Douglas

Ordained: 1958
Status: Settled

Diocese: Diocese of Albany NY

In 1992 the diocese settled with a man alleging abuse by Douglas as a minor in the 1960s. Accused in 2003 of improper sexual advances in the late 1970s with a male teen, allegedly supplied by Rev. Alan Jupin. Placed on leave. In 2004 the Review Board found no ‘reasonable grounds’ for the 2003 allegation. After news of the Review Board’s decision, two women came forward to allege Bishop Hubbard admitted to them in a 1993 meeting that in the 1960s Douglas had two boys undress and masturbate. The women were parishioners of the parish Douglas abruptly left in 1993 and met with Hubbard to get answers. Douglas was at the time sent to the Paracletes for treatment and retired. He was approved in 1996 for work in the Wilmington diocese. Again placed on leave in 3/11. Died in 5/11. Cleared of 3/11 allegations in 11/11.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
