Fr. James A. Funke
Assigned to Bishop DuBourg High School 1979-1986. Funke and a lay teacher, Jerome Robben, were arrested in 10/1986 and charged with the sexual assault of a boy. Funke pleaded guilty in 1987 to ten counts of second-degree deviate sexual assault of two boys. Police found child abuse images in his possession. He was sentenced to ten years in prison and released in 1992. The first victim to report Funke died by suicide at age 21. Funke’s laicization was announced 11/03/2006. He was one of six priests included in a 7/2008 settlement. As of 5/15/2011 he was on the MO sex offender registry. Included on the Archdiocese’s list of credibly accused 7/26/2019.
